Rocking for Recovery

Local charity is 'Rockin' for Recovery'

Local musicians from the East Kent area including James Fairfoul, a Dover-based blues guitarist who is already involved in volunteer workshops at KCA, Margate-based loop-artist, Funke and the Two Tone Baby, fresh from a multitude of shows at Broadstairs Folk Week, alongside a number of KCA staff, including Ruff ‘n' Ready, and support members who offered their services for this exciting and forward-thinking event,.

Event organiser, Georgie Cumming says "I wanted to create something positive to bring us all together and to remind ourselves that we have the power to make things happen. This music event was a test to see how it might work.  The next event will be even bigger."

KCA promotes the use of music and the creative arts as a rehabilitation tool for its service users.  Georgie Cummings again:  "We look at the whole client, their family, their environment and we tailor our treatment to fit them.  Part of that treatment is to help them identify skills and interests that will help them get back into the community, back into work and continue to stay free from drug dependence.  The discipline involved in learning to play instruments, learning how a studio runs and all the effort necessary to put on an event like this, will all feed into a successful recovery for clients."
