Counselling and Psychosocial Interventions

One to one counselling is available to anyone who is concerned about their own, or someone else’s use of substances.

talking_womenThe counselling offered at KCA is based on brief focused intervention over a period of 12 weeks on average.

KCA provides structured counselling in line with current models of evidenced based best practice, and has found that using a range of techniques provides flexibility in service provision, and allows counsellors to create individual packages of care.

KCA counsellors have special training in working with substance misusers but are trained to work with all sorts of underlying problems that may relate to your substance misuse - anxiety, relationships, bereavement, and so on.

There are various types of counselling which may be of help to you.

One to one

One to one counselling aims to help you feel more in charge of your own life.  This may mean making small or big changes over a period of time and your counsellor will support you while you do this.

A course of counselling will normally take place over a period of twelve weeks, during which time you will attend between six and eight counselling sessions and have homework - not essays or sums, we promise, just some exercises to reinforce the counselling - to do to help you on your way.

Group

Group therapy offers a confidential environment where you work with others with similar problems to build on strengths, skills and resources.   As a group, you will work co-operatively and collaboratively to make improvements to your lives and the lives of others concerned with you.

Couple/Family Therapy

Family therapy offers help to those affected by substance misuse who are finding relationships difficult and would like the opportunity to explore and think about these issues.

Family meetings will bring people together in a safe, confidential and supportive atmosphere and can help improve communication and allow a better understanding of one another. Our focus is on how to move forward, although sometimes it is important to think about past events and their impact on the present and future.
