Families and Carers

KCA has three programmes to help the families and carers of those affected by another person's substance misuse.  These are

  • Family Therapy
  • Substance Misusing Parents Project
  • Sunlight Project for Children

We also provide Naloxone training for anyone who may be, or who knows someone else who may be, vulnerable to opiate overdose.

Family Therapy

Our family therapy team works with families, couples and other relations to help them develop a way of coping with the fact of substance misuse and how it affects family dynamics.  Family meetings - monitored and faciliated by counsellors - bring people together in a safe, confidential and supportive atmosphere and can help improve communication and allow a better understanding of one another.

Substance Misusing Parents

KCA works in partnership with Children and Families teams to reduce harm to children who have a parent who is misusing substances.  The programme provides rapid assessment and fast track access to support for the parent in ceasing their substance misuse.

Sunlight Project For Children

KCA also offers confidential support for children who are affected by drug or alcohol use by anyone in their family, whether it’s a current problem or something they have experienced in the past.
