What does Mental Health Look Like?
We held an exhibition of photographs of people with mental health issues and the people who worked with them. By not adding names or details to the photos we try to challenge perceptions and stigmas around mental health.
The photographs, of people suffering with mental ill-health mixed with pictures of mental health professionals, were not titled, and visitors, including the Mayor of Richmond Upon Thames, Councillor David Barlow, were encouraged to consider what mental health looks like and how we judge mental health, and the people who suffer with it.
Zac Goldsmith, who opened the exhibition, said "KCA provide a valuable, community service and through their photographic exhibition "Changing the Face of Mental Health", they intend to challenge the way mental health suffers are viewed in society."
KCA Manager, Emma Baskerville, who is the inspiration behind the project said "We want to dismantle the myths surrounding those who suffer with a Mental Health problem. This project will provide a space where people can reflect upon what mental health looks like and how pre-conceived ideas can sometimes distort their views".
What does mental health look like? It looks like us.
